Practical Meditation

Lita is always being asked how to start to meditate by people who cannot come to her courses. To help people get started in meditation, she has brought out the first in a new series of courses for home study. A teacher’s course is also available through the School.

So many people want to start to meditate and gain the benefits that they have heard of or seen other people reap but they don’t know how to start. Lita de Alberdi, one of the UK’s best known spiritual teachers has made this set of CDs with an introductory manual to assist those who want to learn. Whilst many people associate meditation with Eastern religions, you do not need to have any special beliefs or religion to practice or benefit from meditation.

There are many benefits to be gained from regular meditation, for example, it can calm the emotions and help in developing an inner peacefulness, it can allow you the space to take a more detached attitude to your life, it will help you to cope with stress in your daily life and it can help you to see your problems more clearly, it will certainly help you to learn to relax. It is also said that meditation can help concentration and self discipline and that it can increase creativity. You may very well also gain more spiritual insight and awareness.

There is some evidence that meditation can be beneficial to the health. It can increase vitality and energy levels. Experiments have shown that meditation changes the activity of the brain, enhancing relaxation and producing a restful state of mind. By reducing tension, sleep problems and stress, many diseases associated with these problems can be eased. You do not have to spend a long time meditating to reap the benefits, once you have mastered the technique, you need only perhaps 20 minutes a day in meditation.
